Review: Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel
Have you ever landed one of those bottles of bourbon that you want to call your friends and gloat? This is how I felt after finally finding a bottle of Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bottled-In-Bond at my local liquor store. While I have had the Small Batch and consider it to be one of my favorite selections on my shelf, I had yet to find the single barrel variety, therefore it was cause to celebrate with a review.
Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Bottled-In-Bond is one of a few variety’s offered under the brand that is distilled and bottled by Buffalo Trace. While not as elusive as some of the other varieties as well as other Buffalo Trace brands, it’s still very hard to find due to allocation and demand. Buffalo Trace has done a tremendous job of establishing itself as curating a portfolio of the most desirable bourbons on the market today.
I’m a sucker for great packaging and it’s ability to convey the brand story and the Colonel E.H. Taylor bottles might be the best in the business at telling a story of yesteryear. Starting with the tan and yellow canister that the bottle is contained in, this bourbon maintains a distinct presence on the store shelf that screams class. As the note states on the canister, “Let the Label Tell the Truth”, and there is a lot of truth to be told. Once opening the canister and removing the bottle from its protection, the bottle is pure perfection in story telling. From a pictures of both Colonel Taylor his O.F.C. Distillery to his signature, the bourbon’s dark golden hue shines behind the classic yellow label that pays honor to his uncompromising standards.
This is a Bottled-In-Bond bourbon which means it is 100 Proof (50% Alcohol/Volume), as well as fulfilling all of the other standards that come along with being BIB.
This one does pack a little more punch than the Small Batch version, but that is to be expected with a single barrel. The nose on this one offers tones of sweet caramel, light citrus, and light oak. The taste on this one starts sweet, full, and buttery. It has a very pleasing heat that stays with you for a bit. It closes with bitterness and spiciness.
As the label reminds us, we at BestBourbon.com agree that Colonel E.H. Taylor is a name synonymous with “Topmost Class”. This bourbon truly lives up to the hype that whiskey enthusiasts everywhere create.
Cheers Y’all!
