Bourbon Infused Maple Syrup

Do you ever get intrigued by all of the foods infused with other foods while walking the floor at a boat, sport, and travel show?  We did and now we are here to give it a review.  We picked up a bottle of Bourbon Infused Maple Syrup by Yobique Valley Outfitters out of Riley Brook, New Brunswick, Canada.

There were so many options available to attempt a good taste test.  We thought about the obvious, pancakes, but thought the bourbon flavor might overpower a pancake.  We discussed glazing a nice salmon with it.  Bourbon invokes tastes of the south, therefore we felt it deserved a good southern cuisine for our taste test. After soul searching for the perfect food from the south to pair with this syrup, chicken and corn bread waffles seemed to be the offer the perfect match for a bourbon flavored maple syrup.

For a simple review of the actual syrup, let’s start with the bourbon fragrance.  Upon opening the bottle, it smells fairly close to opening a bottle of bourbon, which is why we thought it needed something heartier than pancakes.  It pours on the thinner side of thick, therefore is spreads fairly easy over your food.  It is amber in color, therefore it’s fairly easy to mistake it for a bottle off your bourbon shelf if you aren’t paying attention.  Unfortunately, there are no notes on the bottle indicating which bourbon they may have used in this syrup.  Once you are consuming the syrup, the bourbon becomes more of an accent than the scent might have implied.

After whipping up a hearty plate of fried chicken and waffles, this syrup proved to be a very good additionto the meal.  The cornbread waffles were made with accents of vanilla and honey.  We topped the meal off with some bourbon smoked sea salt.  Personally actually enjoyed the syrup in the waffles more than thought I would and next time I might forgive the work of frying up the chicken.   Other members of the BestBourbon.com team gave it a thumbs up!

Anytime you have the opportunity to add bourbon as a flavoring into another food you enjoy like maple syrup, we say go for it.  The other option is to just whip some pancakes up on the griddle and  drink your favorite bourbon with it.

Cheers y’all!
